A Manager's View Welcome to Goffs Lane for the first home game of the
Season against near neighbours Waltham Abbey. I am writing after a favourable result at Haringey Borough, in
what promises to be a tough but interesting campaign in the SSML Premier
Division. After only 6 weeks in the job I feel that the Club has taken
great strides both on and off the field and the Pre-Season has been
encouraging in many respects. We have had a tremendous turnout at each
session and we have managed to attract a lot of good quality players to add
to those that I inherited. As a management team we have set out the pattern
of play and the standards which are expected from both First Team and
Reserves and judging by the performances in the Pre-Season games it would
appear that the players are happy to embrace the approach which we have
taken. On the playing side the Club appears to have fallen on hard times
over the last couple of Seasons and has never really consolidated its
position in this grade of football. We have not made any bold statements
about what we want to achieve other than to aim to lift both sides into
higher league positions than they obtained last year and hopefully to try
and rejuvenate the Club both on and off the field with a group of players
who enjoy what they are doing. We have had some good performances in the Pre-Season
games, notably against Ryman League opposition, but that counts for nothing
if we cannot reproduce that in the League. Believe it or not I played for a
number of years at this level and I know that we have to be both in good
shape and well organised if we are to progress! In my short time I have found the Chairman, Committee and
Supporters of the Club to be a friendly and committed group of people and I
hope on the playing side that we are able to repay some of the faith which
has been shown in the management teams with some enjoyable performances. |
